The fire had burned low, and Thomas still held his mage close. The golden light inside of him was brighter than it had ever been. Warming. Soothing.
He brushed a lock of hair from Claudiaâs forehead. âIs it possible for an Ilyiousian to fall in love with a Dorshan?â
A strange smile teased her lips. âI donât see why not. The Dusk Dragon loved the Dawn Dragon, and itâs said she loved him in return.â
He brushed his lips over hers, a tender gesture as he touched his temple to the top of her head. âThe Dawn Dragon was female in the Dorshan stories, too?â
âThe stories in my fatherâs library say she was.â
âExplains a lot about Sarah. Iâd always thought the Dusk Dragon and Dawn Dragon were rivals, not lovers. Some old stories Queen Makayla uncovered in the Temple of the Dawn Dragon say otherwise.â
âThey were first one, then the other. At least thatâs what the old and forbidden stories say. I assume they were forbidden because the kings of Dorsha didnât want anyone to remember that the Dusk Dragon loved the Dawn Dragon so much he created the moon to reflect her glory even as she slept.â
âI can understand why heâd do that.â High Prince Thomas kissed her again, a gentle melding of mouths. He would never care for another as he did for Claudia. Never find another that made him feel all that she did. That made him want all that she did.
That made him want to give all that she did.
Thomas enjoyed his time with her, and while the avalanche threat had not yet passed, he was also using it to avoid leaving the frozen lodge and returning to the sun-drenched skies of Ilyious to be with her. That told him more about his feelings for her than words ever could.
There was no other he would do that for, and for Claudia, he did it willingly. Happily.
âI want you to come back to Ilyious with me,â Thomas whispered as he held her close. âAnd I want you to come back as my wife.â
Claudiaâs breath hitched. âDo you really mean that?â
âYou are the sun in my sky.â The spell she had cast earlier burned through him with its brilliance, meeting the golden light at his core and igniting it.
This was how it was meant to be. How it was supposed to be.
She was his sun, and there would only ever be one.
Claudia stroked his cheek, his shoulders, his chest. Then she hugged him. Hard. âI would like to return with you as your wife.â
He trembled as he held her tightly to him. There could be no lies, no darkness, nothing clouding their love. No foothold for a creature like the demon lord to exploit later. He had to tell Claudia everything. âBecause you are my sun, I have to tell you the truth. You must decide this with only honesty between us.â
âWill it change you from the man that rescued me?â
He held her tighter, never wanting to let her go, but knowing the truth could destroy everything between them.
